A Lifetime of European Cars
Founded in 1887 as Panhard et Levassor, Panhard is one of the world’s earliest automobile manufacturers and a pioneer of the modern car layout, including the Système Panhard (front‑engine, rear‑wheel drive). Known for elegant early cars, advanced engineering, and later for lightweight post‑war models before ceasing private‑car production in the 1960s. The company shifted entirely to military vehicle production afterward.
Most recognizable models: Panhard Dyna X (1948–1954), Panhard Dyna Z (1953–1959), Panhard 24 (1964–1967).
Years in business: 1887–1967 (automobiles), continued as Panhard Defense (1967–present under defense manufacturers).
